Cicerone picks up two awards at the recent OWPG awards ceremony

We are delighted to announce the Cicerone guidebook Trekking in the Alps has won the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild 2011 ‘Guidebook Award for Excellence’.

Congratulations to Kev Reynolds, and the contributors to this guide - Justin Carey, Alan Castle, Roy Clark, Paddy Dillon, Allan Hartley, Gillian Price and Hilary Sharp - all share just as much enthusiasm for, and experience of, Europe's premier mountain range.

Judge Christina Hardyment said:
'This is a book that will make you plan the next twenty years of Alpine holidays straight away, with plenty of practical details by experts about their favourite routes and covering a wide arc of the Alps, from the Mediterranean coast through the great peaks and the Dolomites to the Julian Alps of Slovenia.

Not a pocket volume, but the generous format of the book means that the photographs are the more magnificent.'

Congratulations goes also to Keith Fergus, whose guide, The Ayrshire and Arran Coastal Pathreceived a Highly Commended Award in the same category.

Keith was unable to pick up his award in person, but said:

“I was really, really pleased that I received the Highly Commended award from the OWPG, particularly as I know the unbelievable standard of all the nominees for the award.

Receiving the Highly Commended Award sums up the fantastic experience of walking the 160 miles of the Ayrshire and Arran Coastline and all the incredible hard work that everyone at Cicerone put in to produce a book I am exceptionally proud of.”
