Cicerone’s stand at the Keswick Mountain festival was as busy as ever over the weekend. With authors Paddy Dillon and Ronald Turnbull giving talks in the Adventure Theatre, Pete Hawkins leading introductory navigation courses, and Mark Richards adding his own brand of excitement to the weekend, we enjoyed every minute of the festival.
Completers of all 227 Lakeland FELLRANGER fell summits can be now added to the official hillwalkers register, and apply for a certificate. Details on how to apply can be found on the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) website.
Mark Richards, author of the Fellranger guides, talked to a packed audience in Keswick. With Cicerone’s Lakeland Fellranger guidebook series now complete, and the new ‘Fellranger collection’ box sets just released, Mark’s energy and enthusiasm knew no bounds. His next talk is in Kendal, with more talks to come.
Cicerone and Rohan have just launched a new range of leaflets which feature route extracts from Cicerone’s Lakeland FELLRANGER guidebooks by Mark Richards. The idea is simple – pick up a walk leaflet, and all it costs you is a donation to help Fix the Fells.

Cicerone were invited to support The Dales Outdoor Weekend held at Stanhope in deepest Weardale last weekend, so I went along, armed with a collection of guidebooks and the support of three authors, Paddy Dillon, Mark Richards and Chris Townsend.
I have never been a peak-bagger, I simply love being on the fell. So the drive to create this series is more an attempt to embrace the magic of the whole fell environment in my mind’s eye. Books five – The Western Fells and six – The North-Western Fells have been two years in the making, good years for all the right reasons.
We’ve got a quick update for you regarding Mark Richards Lakeland Fellranger series. Mark has been busy writing and researching the Western Fells of the Lake District, and the next two volumes – The Western Fells and The North-Western Fells are due to be published in March and April next year.
Sometimes it’s not all that easy to get busy people together in one place, but when the place is as special as a recently repaired footpath just above Crummock Water, then it’s easy to see why this was the location for Cicerone ‘officially’ to present a cheque for nearly £600 towards the Fix the Fells Project!
